Description

The almond tree (Prunus dulcis) is a deciduous fruit tree known for its hardy dormancy and stunning seasonal beauty. Typically growing 3–4.5 meters (10–15 feet) tall, almond trees are a spectacular sight when in full bloom.From late January to early April (north of the Equator), almond trees produce fragrant, five-petaled flowers in shades of light pink to white. These blooms are self-incompatible, meaning they require insect pollinators such as bees to cross-pollinate with other almond cultivars for fruit production.The almond fruit, technically a drupe, resembles a peach during its early growth stages. As it ripens, the leathery outer hull naturally splits open and curls outward, revealing the hard shell inside. Contrary to popular belief, almonds are not true nuts; they are seeds enclosed within a hard fruit covering.
